Tragic Loss in Indian Film Industry: Kannada Actor-Director Guru Prasad Passes Away
Bengaluru: The Indian film industry is mourning the loss of Kannada actor and director Guru Prasad, who was found dead at his apartment in Dasanapura, North Bengaluru. He was 52 years old. Initial reports suggest that he may have taken his own life, with financial difficulties suspected as a contributing factor.
Residents of the apartment complex reported a foul odor emanating from Guru Prasad’s flat, prompting security personnel to alert the authorities. Upon arrival, police officers discovered him hanging from a ceiling fan. The body was in a state of decomposition.
The Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) are currently investigating the area for evidence. Authorities are also searching the flat for a possible suicide note. According to police reports, the discovery was made around 11 AM on Sunday, following a message circulated in the apartment’s WhatsApp group regarding the unpleasant smell. Concerned about potential garbage buildup, security staff went to investigate, and upon closer inspection using a ladder, they found Guru Prasad suspended from the ceiling.
A resident named Jayaram stated that he last saw Guru Prasad four days ago. The filmmaker began his career as a director with the 2006 film Mathu Madiyalu, starring veteran actor Jaggesh. He later directed notable films such as Eddegalu Manjunatha and Ranganayaka and received the Karnataka State Filmfare Award.
In addition to directing, Guru Prasad also acted in films including Bodyguard, Kushka, Vigil, Huduguru, Mylari, and Jigarthanda. He contributed as a dialogue writer for projects like Huduguru, Vigil, and Super Ranga. Furthermore, he wrote scripts and dialogues for the Kannada reality show Kotiyadhipathi, hosted by the late superstar Puneeth Rajkumar
