New Delhi : India’s dominant run at home came to a screeching halt as New Zealand clinched a historic 3-0 clean sweep in the recently concluded Test series. This crushing defeat ended India's impressive streak of 18 consecutive Test series wins on home soil over the past 12 years, leaving fans and former cricketers in shock. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken serious note of the matter, convening an extensive review meeting with head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma.
The six-hour-long meeting, attended by BCCI President Roger Binny and Secretary Jay Shah, was reportedly intense, with both the coach and captain being held accountable for tactical errors. The board questioned several critical decisions that might have contributed to the series whitewash, which marked one of India's most disappointing home performances in recent years.
Tactical Decisions Under Scrutiny
Sources indicate that the BCCI was particularly displeased with the choice of pitches and team selection. Despite losing the first two Tests, Gambhir and Rohit opted for another spin-friendly pitch in the final match, which backfired against a well-prepared New Zealand side. Additionally, the decision to rest star pacer Jasprit Bumrah for the crucial third Test was met with severe criticism. The board officials reportedly questioned, “Why ask for a spin pitch despite losing the first two matches?” and “Why was Bumrah rested for such a critical game?”
Though Gambhir and Rohit attempted to justify their strategies during the meeting, the BCCI leadership made it clear that the clean sweep on home turf was unacceptable and warranted immediate corrective measures.
