Seoul: South Korean President Declares Martial Law Amid Rising Public Opposition

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has declared martial law in an attempt to quell growing public opposition to his administration. The announcement of military rule has sparked widespread protests, with thousands of citizens taking to the streets in protest. Major opposition parties have also voiced strong disapproval of the move.

In a surprise statement, President Yoon acknowledged the backlash and apologized to the people, expressing regret over his abrupt decision to impose martial law. "I deeply apologize for the shock caused to the public due to my sudden announcement of martial law. I understand that this has led to widespread concerns among the people," Yoon said in a media interaction.

The opposition parties have already filed a motion for impeachment in parliament over the imposition of martial law, and a vote on the motion is expected to take place soon.
