CM Naidu Pushes for Nature Farming and Drone Technology to Support Farmers
Amaravati ( Journalist File ) : In a push to modernize agriculture and reduce costs for farmers, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has called for the implementation of innovative agricultural practices using technology. During a review meeting on agricultural policies, he stated that leveraging technology could dramatically lower cultivation expenses and enhance productivity.
Naidu asserted that nature farming could become a game changer for the state's agricultural sector, much like the IT industry has transformed other sectors. He emphasized that Andhra Pradesh should position itself as a pioneer in nature farming by integrating advanced agricultural techniques and technologies.
The Chief Minister advocated for the extensive use of drones in agriculture, explaining that they could lead to a savings of over 30% in pesticide usage. Officials revealed that approximately 40,000 drones are necessary for effective agricultural management in the state. The central government offers subsidies of up to ₹8 lakh for the purchase of drones, along with low-interest loan options, which Naidu encouraged farmers to take advantage of.
He proposed training women from DWCRA groups to operate drones, creating a new avenue for employment and entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector. Naidu highlighted that nature farming practices, which had been neglected by previous administrations, have shown greater resilience against adverse weather conditions compared to traditional farming methods.
Recent studies indicated that while 100% of crops under chemical farming were affected by recent floods, only 10% of crops under nature farming sustained damage. This vital information, Naidu noted, could incentivize farmers to adopt more sustainable agricultural practices. He stressed the importance of educating the public about the benefits of nature farming.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister discussed the need for advanced soil testing methods through artificial intelligence to provide farmers with tailored nutrient recommendations. On the issue of compensation for crop losses, officials reported that ₹37 crore is required for losses from July, and Naidu has approved the release of these funds. It was also mentioned that ₹319 crore had been disbursed to farmers in the wake of September's flooding. In line with cabinet sub-committee recommendations, the government will reintroduce traditional crop insurance starting this rabi season. The review meeting included Minister Achhen Naidu and other senior officials.
